METRO |
Brescia's metropolitan area has about 450,000 inhabitants and lies approximately 85 km east of Milan, in Lombardy, northern Italy. In July 2000, tenders were invited for a 13 km long automated light metro, similar to the Copenhagen metro, with a deep-level tube tunnel under the city centre. The system, initially referred to as Metrobus, was to be developed within 7 years with construction having started in 2003, but after some delays it was finally opened in March 2013. The driverless 3-car trains are 39 m long and 2.65 m wide. They serve 17 stations, all equipped with platform screen doors. |
