07 July 2003: Parnell - Britomart
15 April 2012: A 2 km branch off Southern Line to Manukau City Centre opened for regular service, operated as a branch off the Eastern Line.
11 Mar 2017: Westfield station (north of Otahuhu) closed
13 Mar 2017: new Parnell station added between Newmarket and Britomart

Electric service started between Britomart and Onehunga on 28 April 2014, and on the southern line to Papakura and Manukau on 15 Aug 2014, with the Newmarket – Swanson route fully electrified since May 2015. Electric service was gradually introduced until delivery of a total of 57 three-car EMUs built by CAF of Spain was completed.

 

 Projects

City Rail Link - a new 3.5 km twin-bore tunnel between Maungawhau (formerly Mt. Eden) and Waitemata (formerly Britomart) stations to create a city centre loop; construction started in 2016, possible start of service in early 2026. [Project Website]
